We've talked about Original Xbox games a little bit before. Several of you have expressed concerns about these games not passing the XDVDMulleter checks. I feel like I've been a little vague when I've answered these questions and right now I'm going to give you some more definitive answers. First of all, let's talk about what you need to run an Original Xbox game on your modified 360. You MUST get a game that is stealth patched just like a 360 game. That's why the games in my post are pretty much the only ones that you're going to find that will work. There are many original games throughout the forums, but these games are not stealth patched or converted to a DVD9 format. And, before you ask, no you cannot download one of these games and try to make it work. There are things that are involved in the ripping progress that have to be done to make it work on a 360. The second thing that you must have is Xbox Live. You need to be able to download a patch that makes the game work. The xbox 360 uses an emulator program to run Original Xbox games. The patch tells the emulator what settings to use to make it all run smoothly. The next thing that you need to do is check and make sure that the game is on Microsoft's list of compatible xbox-to-xbox 360 games. If it is not, then it will not work on your 360.
All right, now we're going to talk about XDVDMulleter. This program is still in the Beta stage and is a work in progress. Everything that has been implemented works 100%. However, there are things that XDVDMulleter cannot see yet. One of these things is called "Zero Padding". It is important that each game (360 or Original) matches the file size of the original game. Most of the time when you Rip a game, it comes out much smaller. This is why most ripping programs insert padding to make the game appear to be the correct size. There are two kinds of padding: Random Padding and Zero Padding. The game itself determines which padding is going to be present. Some are formated for Random Padding (Mostly 360 games) and some use Zero. Most original Xbox games use Zero Padding. So, when you check the game in XDVDMulleter, it will not pass the Ixtreme Compatible test because it does not have Random Padding. XDVDMulleter does not currently search for Zero Padding. I've talked with the guy that created XDVDMulleter and he even admits that this is something that he needs to correct. So, just because a game does not have Random Padding does not mean that it is unsafe for Xbox Live or that it is not Ixtreme Compatible. Know that every game that I post is going to be 100% safe. Feel free to still check the game in XDVDMulleter, but know that if an Original Game does not have Random Padding, it is still safe
