How to install custom firmware on your PS3
This tutorial will teach you how to install custom firmware on your PS3. The recent developments of custom firmware’s use PUP files which install the exact same way as the original PS3 firmware PUPs. This guide is straight of the PS3 home page and can be used for any custom firmware out there, in this tutorial I will use Geohots CFW.


Requirements:
· PS3 on FIRMWRE 3.55 (so update it to v3.55/latest firmware first)
· USB/Flash Drive

How to setup PS3 CFW (Normal Method):

Setting Up the Firmware:
1. Create a folder on the storage media in which to save the update data. Using a PC, create a folder named “PS3” on the storage media or USB device. Within the PS3 folder, create a folder named “UPDATE”.

2. Download your PUP file. This can be your original PS3 firmware or a Custom Firmware. You can download original PS3 firmware HERE, you can download Geohot Custom Firmware HERE. Search on front page for any new custom firmware that may come out after this guide has been posted

Updating the PS3

• Do not turn off the PS3™ system or remove the storage media or USB device during an update. If an update is cancelled before completion, the system software may become damaged, and the system may require servicing or exchange.
• During an update, the power button on the system front and PS button of the controller are inactive.
• Insert the storage media or USB device that contains the update data in the PS3™ system.
• From the home menu, select (Settings) > (System Update), and then press the (X) button.

• Select [Update via Storage Media], and then press the (X) button

• The system automatically searches for and finds the update data saved on the storage media or USB device.
• Start the Update

• Press the (X) button to start the update. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

How to setup PS3 CFW (Recovery Method) - Use this way if you are having issues installing using the normal method.

Step 1: Plug a USB stick into your computer
Step 2:Download PS3UPDAT.PUP file.
Step 3:Create folder PS3 and then create folder UPDATE inside it.
Step 4:Unzip Jailbreak.zip to PS3UPDAT.PUP and put PS3UPDAT.PUP filein /PS3/UPDATE/ folder of your USB drive.
Step 5:Power down you PS3 console and put USB drive.
Step 6: Now press and hold the power button, the system will startup and shutdown again.
Step 7:Release the power button, then press and hold power again, you’ll hear one beep followed by two consecutive beeps.
Step 8:Release power then follow the on-screen instructions. You’re now in the recovery menu.
Step 9:Connect the USB device and select “System Update.”
Step 10:Choose Update via Storage Media
Step 11:It will say it found Version 3.55-jb
Step 12:Choose OK
Step 13:Accept Conditions and Install Update
Step 14:After less than a minute, your PS3 will update, beep 4 times then shut down.
Step 15:Power up your PS3 (You will have to do it on the console and not by the controller)
There you have it, custom firmware on your PS3!

Det är i dagsläget inte möjligt att ge ett bra svar på, det går att ta bort jailbreaken ja, men kan sony märka det? svårt för oss som inte sitter och grottar runt i maskinen själv att svara på...
